Religious leaders slam Republicans for complaining about holiday-week votes

Not only are Harry Reid and Joe Biden taking on Senate Republicans for complaining about having to work in the days leading up to Christmas, but some religious leaders are upset, too.

As my colleague Liz Goodwin writes at our sister blog, The Lookout, religious leaders advocating for passage of the DREAM Act were critical of remarks from Sens. Jon Kyl and Jim DeMint in which they suggested votes around the holidays would be disrespectful and, in DeMint's words, "sacriligious."

"That is some maneuvering that really is simply inappropriate," Rev. Jerry Dykstra told reporters on a conference call today. He added that even Jesus supported working on the Sabbath at crucial times.
