New Romney ad hits Obama for going negative

For the second day in a row, Mitt Romney is out with a new television ad trashing President Barack Obama for negative attacks.

Unlike Romney's first two ads on the subject, the latest spot, titled "What happened?", does not use video of Hillary Clinton accusing Obama of distortions during the 2008 campaign. But the Romney campaign sticks with its "shame on you" message, this time showing footage of Obama himself decrying negative attacks during his 2008 Democratic Convention speech in Denver.

"If you don't have any fresh ideas, then you use stale tactics to scare voters," Obama is shown saying, as a Politico headline detailing the Obama campaign's "destroy Romney" strategy flashes on the screen.

"If you don't have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from," Obama is shown saying. "You made a big election about small things."

The ad concludes with a message on the screen reading, "We expect more from a president."

The Romney campaign declined to comment on how much it is spending on the ad or where it is airing. Earlier this week, the campaign reportedly reserved nearly $5 million in TV airtime in eight key battlegrounds states through next week.
