Mitt Romney seen pumping gas in La Jolla

Aside from a controversial conference call with donors, Mitt Romney has kept a low profile since losing the 2012 presidential election to Barack Obama.

The former Republican nominee was spotted with his wife, Ann, at a screening of the new "Twilight" movie, "Breaking Dawn — Part 2," in Del Mar, Calif., on Saturday. According to TMZ, the pair later "hit up a pizza place across the street."

On Monday, a photograph of Romney filling up at a gas station in La Jolla, Calif., was posted to Reddit.com.

"Mitt Romney at my local gas station," Reddit user mkb95 wrote. "He looks tired and washed up."

Romney's hair appears to be slightly frazzled, unlike the slicked-back coif he sported on the trail—though it's nothing like Al Gore's post-2000-election-loss beard. Other Reddit users countered that the former Massachusetts governor merely looked annoyed at having his photo taken at the pump.

"I talked to him for a good three minutes while he was filling his tank," the photographer added. "I guess he's moving to one of his houses in the town I live in, La Jolla."

That would appear to be in line with what those close to Romney thought he'd do after the election—spend more time with his family (the 65-year-old has five sons and 18 grandchildren) and permanently move to California, where he owns a $12 million mansion.
