Romney super PAC to run ads during Olympic Games

Mitt Romney carries the Olympic flame during the torch relay for the Turin 2006 Winter Olympic Games.

And you thought the Olympic Games would be politics-free.

Restore Our Future, a super PAC supporting Mitt Romney's presidential campaign, announced a $7.2 million campaign Thursday that will run ads in 11 states during the Olympic Games in London.

The group did not discuss the content of the ads, but in a statement Thursday, Restore Our Future Treasurer Charlie Spies discussed Romney's involvement in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.

"Ten years ago, Mitt Romney rescued the Salt Lake City Olympics from scandal and financial ruin, transforming a crushing deficit into a surplus and delivering a safe and secure Olympics less than a year after September 11," said Spies. "Mitt Romney is a proven leader who is capable of turning our economy around and creating an environment where we can once again realize the American Dream."

The ads begin airing on July 31 and will run through Aug. 9 in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Romney plans to attend the games with his wife, Ann, whose dressage horse will compete on the U.S. Equestrian team.
