Romney to travel to Louisiana to survey Hurricane Isaac damage

LAKELAND, Fla.—Mitt Romney will travel to New Orleans on Friday to survey storm damage in the aftermath of Hurricane Isaac.

Romney is set to attend a send-off rally at an airplane hangar here with his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan. The two had been scheduled to continue on to a rally in Richmond, Va., but Romney will instead fly to New Orleans.

A Romney aide told Yahoo! News he will meet with Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and tour storm damage in Lafitte, La., one of the cities hardest hit by flooding. He is supposed to arrive in New Orleans at 12:30 p.m. CT.

Romney's decision to travel to Louisiana comes days after GOP officials were forced to cancel the first day of the Republican National Convention amid worries the storm would make a direct hit on Tampa, the site of the convention.
