Scott Brown boasts Democratic support along with Mayor Bloomberg

Republican Sen. Scott Brown is out Friday touting Democratic support yet again, this time from former Boston Mayor Ray Flynn. There's also news that independent New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is backing Brown's bid against Democrat Elizabeth Warren.

"I'm a Democrat, but I'm tired of all the polarization, the pettiness, the bickering," Flynn says in a new television ad released Friday. "Scott Brown is a person that you can work with."

The commercial begins airing today in the Boston, Springfield, Providence and Albany markets and on cable television, the campaign announced.

This week, news also surfaced that Bloomberg will support Brown over Warren, mostly due to Brown's opposition to allowing gun owners to carry concealed weapons across state lines, the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act. A staunch gun control supporter, Bloomberg made clear with his endorsement that Brown's stance on this particular issue outweighs Brown's "A" rating from the NRA and Brown's opposition to an overall assault weapons ban.

Brown believes an assault weapons ban should be handled at the state level, while Warren supports an overall extension of the ban.

The mayor is planning to host an August fundraiser for Brown, Bloomberg's office announced Thursday.

Throughout his campaign, Brown has positioned himself as an independent voice—a key tactic in a traditionally Democratic state where Brown's 2010 special election win was a rare recent Republican power-grab.

Warren continues to draw support for her work as a consumer advocate who took on Wall Street. She served as the chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) and was President Barack Obama's top pick to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Republicans in Congress blocked her nomination.

The Massachusetts Credit Union League on Thursday publicly backed her candidacy citing her commitment to challenging big banks.

"Today, Scott Brown stands with Wall Street, and I stand with every credit union in the Commonwealth," Warren reportedly said at her campaign headquarters in Somerville on Thursday amid news of Bloomberg's decision.
