South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley appears on

South Carolina Republican Gov. Nikki Haley explained to the public on Friday why Stephen Colbert, host of Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report," isn't qualified to run for U.S. Senate.

It's just not the reason you'd think.

"Thank you for your interest in South Carolina's U.S. Senate seat and for the thousands of tweets you and your fans sent me," Haley wrote Friday on Facebook. The post followed native South Carolinian Colbert's stated interest in running to succeed Sen. Jim DeMint. "But you forget one thing, my friend. You didn't know our state drink. Big, big mistake."

Haley in her post linked to her April appearance on "The Colbert Report" when she stumped Colbert by asking him to name the state drink. "It's milk," Haley said to wide audience laughter. Colbert replied, "I didn't realize my state was so boring."

Colbert on his show Thursday asked viewers to tweet Haley and explain why she should appoint Colbert to succeed DeMint, who on Thursday announced plans to resign in January to head up the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank.
