By President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney speak Thursday at the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. Obama speaks at 7:55 p.m. EDT, and Romney at 9 p.m. EDT.
Smith, for those needing a politics history refresher, was a New York governor, opponent of prohibition and Democratic candidate for the presidency in 1928. He also was the first Roman Catholic to run for the presidency as a major party nominee. He lost the election to Herbert Hoover. He tried for the nomination again in 1932, but was defeated by Franklin D. Roosevelt. Now back to the present.
Obama will campaign earlier in the day in New Hampshire, which, with only four Electoral College votes, is the smallest of the battleground states.
Vice President Joe Biden will campaign Thursday in Las Vegas, and Romney running mate Paul Ryan has campaign events scheduled in Florida.
Also worth noting on Thursday: Craig Romney campaigns in Colorado for his father; Rick Santorum campaigns in North Carolina for Romney; and "The Boss," aka Bruce Springsteen, campaigns for Obama in Ohio and Iowa.
And then there is this: Obama makes his sixth appearance this evening on "'The Daily Show With Jon Stewart," his second since becoming president.
And this: "Ethel," a documentary about the life of Ethel Kennedy, wife of Robert F. Kennedy, airs on HBO at 9 p.m. EDT. The film is directed by her Emmy Award-winning daughter, Rory Kennedy. The documentary chronicles her political awakening, the life she shared with Kennedy, and the years following his death when she raised 11 children on her own.
