    Tuesday in politics: Obama discusses ‘fiscal cliff’ with governors, and more

    President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner meet with governors at the White House on Tuesday to discuss the economy — especially the "fiscal cliff."

    Governors attending include Democrats Jack Markell of Delaware, Mike Beebe of Arkansas and Mark Dayton of Minnesota,  and Republicans Mary Fallin of Oklahoma, Gary Herbert of Utah and Scott Walker of Wisconsin.

    The governors will talk to reporters on the White House Lawn immediately after the 10:10 a.m. EST meeting.

    The White House rolled out a fiscal cliff proposal last week that Republicans rejected. On Monday, Republicans rolled out a plan that the White House rejected.

    The fiscal cliff refers to a combination of tax increases and deep spending cuts set to automatically kick in at the beginning of January. Economists warn of another recession if a deal is not reached.

    Also worth noting on Tuesday: GOP Sen. Marco Rubio and Rep. Paul Ryan, both mentioned as possible 2016 Republican presidential candidates, speak at the Kemp Leadership Award Dinner, and Rick Santorum attends a book signing just outside Washington in McLean, Va.

    And then there is this: Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker begins a food stamp challenge by trying to live on the stamps for at least a week. Booker took up the challenge after a conversation with a woman on Twitter.

    And this: The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree lighting ceremony is this evening, with Speaker of the House John Boehner presiding. This year's tree comes from Colorado, and it's decorated with the theme "Celebrating our Great Outdoors."
