Weekend in politics: Obama, congressional leaders meet, and more

It’s sequester day—the day $85 billion in automatic, across-the-board spending cuts is scheduled to take effect.

President Barack Obama will meet Friday morning at the White House with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Speaker John Boehner and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to discuss plans to break the budget stalemate that has allowed the cuts to kick in.

There’s no doubt that sequestration—the draconian cuts that were never supposed to actually happen—will dominate the Sunday morning talk shows.

Also worth noting this weekend: Secretary of State John Kerry continues his nine-country trip with a stops in Turkey on Friday and in Egypt on Saturday; and Vice President Joe Biden will participate in the annual crossing of the Edmond Pettus Bridge in Selma, Ala., commemorating the historic march by civil rights leaders from Selma to Montgomery in 1965.

And then there is this: Mitt Romney gives his first interview since the Nov. 6 election on “Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace.”
