    • Who out there wouldn't love free money, free groceries, a free apartment for a year in one of the coolest cities in the country and relocation expenses all paid by someone else? Five founders of emerging Internet companies competed in Capital Factory's "Move Your Startup to Austin for Free at SXSW." Capital Factory is an Austin-based company that helps tech startups become entrepreneurs.

      So, who won?

Drumroll please...the winner is Meritful, an Ann Arbor, Michigan based company that connects students with potential future employers. Meritful defines itself as "a professional development platform for students and companies," and implores its users to "stand out," and develop a professional network of mentors before they even graduate.

Meritful practices what it preaches by helping equip students with the tools to get noticed by potential employers by providing ways for students to showcase their problem-solving skills, receive feedback and make connections with company decision makers.

    • If you read this blog or watch "Trending Now" on a regular basis, you may be better acquainted with Reddit than most of the general public. We often site Reddit as the original source for where our story ideas come from. Even though some would argue that Reddit has and continues to change the way we share news, some people are still not quite sure what it is or how it works.

In the most basic terms, Reddit is a social news and entertainment cite where registered users contribute with links and comments. These users have the ability to vote a story up or down. Stories that get up-voted, are deemed hotter or more important and move up toward the top of the ever-changing list of stories; while those that are voted down, fall in the ranks.

Reddit, known as "the front page of the Internet," was launched in 2005 by co-founders Steven Huffman and Alexis Ohanian.

We had the opportunity to talk one on one with Ohanian. Not only is Ohanian one of the most charming young innovators I've ever met,

    • This has to be one of the most exciting weeks ever for the "Trending Now" team. For the first time, we are not in our Manhattan studio filming the show. Instead, we're on location in Austin, Texas, at the 20th annual South by Southwest festival.

There are three portions of the conference that people attend: interactive, music, and film. SXSW is known to attract emerging artists, filmmakers, and entrepreneurs from all over the world to showcase their creative talents and immerse themselves in the culture of innovative ideas that surrounds the SXSW bubble. There's a lot of celebrity spotting going on. Rumor has it, Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z will make an appearance this year. This year, the festival runs from March 8 through 17, beginning with the interactive portion.

The FAQ sheet describes this portion of the festival as follows: "An incubator of cutting-edge technologies and digital creativity." The interactive festival includes keynote presentations, panel discussions, meet-ups,

    • Guide dogs are not just for humans anymore. Nope. Visually impaired dogs apparently use them, too. That's the case with dog buddies Eddie and Milo. Eddie is a 7-year-old black Labrador. His owner, Angie Baker-Stedham, of Cardiff, Wales, noticed that the dog was losing his sight last year when he started walking into walls and trashcans. Milo is a 6-year-old terrier mix. He had always been close to Eddie, and he took on a new role with his friend -- guide dog.

Baker-Stedham said that Milo became a guide dog all on his own, without any training whatsoever, and now will help to get Eddie whenever she calls for him. Milo wears bells on his collar so that Eddie can find him at all times. There are times when Milo even pulls Eddie along on a leash as they walk. Baker-Stedham said, "Milo really cares for Eddie. He always licks his face; they sleep in the same room and spend all their time together. Without Milo, Eddie would be lost."

She also says that the two dogs are now practically joined

    • A 6-year-old boy in England is still in disbelief after a science experiment he did with his class went remarkably well. Joshua Blackaby and his classmates at Wyndham Primary Academy, in the British town of Alvaston, released 300 helium-filled balloons in December.

The purpose of the project was to teach the children about geography and weather. Each balloon was tagged with the school's address and a student's name, hoping that whoever found the balloons would get in touch with the students so they could discover how far their balloons had traveled.

According to the school's coordinator, some of the students received letters from the Netherlands and even Denmark, but none received a response from as far away as Joshua did. He received a letter all the way from Kurrajong in New South Wales, Australia. The total distance from his school in Alvaston to the home in New South Wales where the balloon was found was 10,545 miles.

Joshua read the letter he received aloud to the class, "Hi, my
