  • Charlie Kwentus knows that he won’t be around to dance with his two daughters at their weddings, but a local nonprofit is helping to grant this man his dying wish.

“I won’t be able to walk them down the aisle at their weddings,” Kwentus, 42, told KSDK. “But, yes, I will get this.”

Charlie was diagnosed with a brain tumor when he was 26, and he decided to stop treatment about two years ago.

“I just decided, and my family backed me on it, that it was time to quit. You know, quality verses quantity,” Kwentus said.

Since then Charlie and his family — his wife, Courtney Beers, and their two daughters, Maren and Zoe — have been getting in as much quality time together as possible, including a three-week road trip around the western United States.

“We feel like we’re building a bank of memories that will last a lifetime,” Beers told KSDK, “They have to last a lifetime.”

When they returned from their trip, Annie’s Hope, a local nonprofit organization that helps bereaved children, helped set up

  • The Calbuco volcano in southern Chile erupted twice on Wednesday for the first time in 42 years. Ash and smoke were sent about 6 miles into the air

About 4,000 people were evacuated from their homes in the areas surrounding the volcano, which is located about 600 miles south of Santiago, the Chilean capital. Chile is home to more than 90 active volcanoes, and Calbuco is one of the largest, measuring about 6,500 feet tall.

A time-lapse video of the remarkable scene was uploaded to YouTube by Rodrigo Barrera, and has been viewed more than a million times so far. In the video, ash billows out of the volcano, and even a few bolts of lightning can be seen in the red, smoke-filled sky.

  • During the 1930s and 1940s, Alice Barker was a chorus line dancer at famous clubs like the Apollo and the Cotton Club. Back then, these performances were sometimes recorded and called “soundies.” The thing is, Alice, now 102 years old, had never actually seen herself dance.

Researchers from Jazz on Film dug up the soundies and brought them to Alice, who now lives in a Brooklyn nursing home. Alice watched the clips on an iPad from her bed and recounted how her nickname during her dancing days was “Chicken Little.” After watching the footage, someone in the room asked Alice how it was to see herself, and she answered, “Making me wish that I could get out of this bed and do it all over again.”

And then the crew came back with more footage to show Alice, who had this to say about seeing herself after all these years: “Its just fabulous! Fabulous to see these.” She added, “I used to often say to myself, I am being paid to do something that I enjoy doing, and I would do it for free because
