Father Says Goodbye to Son With a Gut-Wrenching Performance

It's something we often take for granted — two people building a life together, growing with each other, and bringing a child into the world — but building a family is one of the most beautiful things to know, an experience that one can't necessarily put into words.

During her pregnancy, Ashley Picco would tell her young husband, Chris, that she could feel their baby move around while they listened to music.

Chris, a passionate musician, hoped to pass his love of music to his child, a son they decided to name Lennon.

Tragically, something went wrong during Ashley's pregnancy, and at only 24 weeks she was forced to deliver her child by emergency cesarean section.

Lennon James Picco, was born on Nov. 8.

Ashley died that day from complications of the early delivery.

Lennon was not doing well either. For the few days he hung on to life, his father turned to music.

In this video uploaded to YouTube, Chris Picco plays a cover of the Beatles song, Blackbird during the last few hours of his son's life.

Lennon died on Nov. 11. He was 4 days old. He was dressed in an outfit covered in little guitars, which his mother purchased for him.

The video has touched millions. This weekend, a memorial service will be held for Ashley and Lennon. A fund has also been set up to help Chris cover the expenses of these tragic and sudden events.

On Facebook, Chris gave a message of thanks, writing: "I am so thankful for the four unforgettable days I got to spend with him. ... I [am] honored to love him before he was formed, to cherish him while mommy carried him, meet him face to precious face, and hold his perfect little body while we said 'goodbye for now.'"
