Man’s Read of Longest English Word Takes More Than Three Hours

The longest word I know is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. I learned it from Mary Poppins. I'm not sure what the word means, but it's funny, and it makes me smile and think of my childhood. Believe it or not, it's not the longest word in the dictionary. There is a protein in the human body called titin, which functions like a spring and gives our muscles elasticity. Here's a surprising fact about titin -- the word for its chemical structure is actually the longest word in the English language. A few days ago, a video titled "The Longest Word in English (Pronounced)" was uploaded to YouTube with a man saying the 189,819-letter word in its entirety. It takes him more than three and half hours to finish.

Throughout the video, there are some quick edits that show a pot of flowers wilting as he grows a noticeable five o'clock shadow. Surely this is not the first time someone has tried to read the entire word, but this video is the only evidence of an attempt thus far. It also showcases the man's persistence and patience. Want to see the word? Check it out at Yahoo! Answers, where a brave user responded to the question, "What is the full chemical name for titin?"

The video has been viewed more than 38,000 times, and it has received 200 likes and 25 dislikes. Many commenters wonder why the guy in the video sat down to read the word in the first place. We doubt most of them actually sat through all three and half hours of it to hear him read every syllable.
