Obama Gets Personal On Twitter, Rory McIlroy Rises in Search, and a Whole Foods Rap Goes Viral

President Barack Obama is known for his social media savvy. He streams presidential addresses on Facebook and YouTube and has had a Twitter account for four years. His team has used social media to get the word out. Now the president is taking the reins. An announcement on his website (of course) said the president himself will now be tweeting using the signature "BO." He sent his first personal tweet yesterday, saying, "Being a father is sometimes my hardest but always my most rewarding job. Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. -BO." The personalization of the president's Twitter account is his campaign's latest effort to stay at the cusp of social media. After the success of his 2008 campaign's embrace of social media, we expect to see more from the president on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube as he sets his sights on re-election.

Yahoo! searches for "golf clubs" are up, and not just because it's summer. Golf excitement is in the air following Rory McIlroy's win at the U.S. Open Championship this weekend. The 22-year-old from Northern Ireland set a U.S. Open course record by shooting 16-under par, shattering the previous record of 12-under. Yahoo! searches for McIlroy skyrocketed nearly 3,000% during the event, with women making up 43 percent of searchers. The online buzz about McIlroy doesn't end there. He tweeted a picture of himself drinking from the U.S. Open trophy, which was re-tweeted more than 1,600 times.

The next time someone steals your spot outside Whole Foods, don't key their car. Instead express your parking lot rage in song. The latest YouTube viral video sensation "Whole Foods Parking Lot" has received more than 1 million views in less than a week. The video's popularity soared after being tweeted by rapper Lil Jon and TV host Ryan Seacrest. The video's maker George Woolley, who is also an executive producer at Yahoo! Studios, told Trending Now that he and his team made the video just for fun. They plan on selling "Whole Foods Parking Lot" T-shirts on their site fogandsmog.com, and will donate the proceeds to a charity that promotes jazz in schools.
