Short film shows San Francisco from dizzying bird’s-eye views

Get ready to see San Francisco as you’ve never seen it before.

GoPro employee and filmmaker Ryan Truettner attached a GoPro to a custom-made rotating mount and took a spin around the city. The short film that resulted, “GoPro: Retro Revolution,” was his response to a challenge posed to the GoPro media department: Each employee was given a GoPro Hero4 and 48 hours to create anything he or she wanted.

“I built a cheap, revolving-arm rig and planned to shoot a series of scenics around San Francisco. More than anything, I just wanted to experiment with the concept and see what came of it,” Truettner wrote in a blog post.

Truettner’s experiment paid off: The video has been viewed more than 137,000 times since it was posted to YouTube Jan. 19.

“Next time I definitely want to do more,” Truettner wrote. “I believe this technique could be really powerful if applied to high-action sports for example.”

We can’t wait to see his next piece.
