Tumblr blog tweaks 'Peanuts' captions, adds Smiths' lyrics

Users on Tumblr are experts at doctoring newspaper cartoons to give them a new, often darker, flair. There is " Garfield Minus Garfield," which removes the orange cat, leaving his owner, Jim, sad, aloneand sometimes out of his mind. There's also the nihilistic interpretation of "The Family Circus," "The Nietzsche Family Circus."

There's a new Sunday-Funny hack on the block, and it's called "This Charming Charlie." It harnesses the raw emotion found in "Peanuts" strips and combines it with the similarly effusive lyrics of the band the Smiths, and it is great.

The blog is a project of Lauren LoPrete, who is a graphic designer in the San Francisco Bay Area. She also co-runs a record label called Loglady.

Charlie Brown's down-in-the-dumps attitude is portrayed well with lyrics such as, "Last night I dreamt that somebody loved me." Lucy's anger is represented well with, "I am human, and I need to be loved just like everybody else does."

There are already many examples live on Tumblr to choose from, spanning a treasure trove of Smiths hits. So if you're a fan of either, head on over and check them out. But don't blame us if you get at least a little sad.
