U2 surprises commuters with NYC subway concert

Armed with wigs, fake beards and upside-down buckets for drums, U2 gave a surprise performance Monday night on a New York subway platform, dressed as street performers.

Bono and the band took over the S train platform at Grand Central Station to treat commuters to some of their greatest hits.

Eventually, the band ditched the disguises and continued to rock out!

U2 will appear on “The Tonight Show” this Friday, and many believe this impromptu performance was a bit for the show … especially since Jimmy Fallon was spotted in the crowd.

Among many people who recorded and took pictures of the subway performance was celebrity chef Mario Batali. It’s unclear if he was part of the stunt or  just passing through, but he clearly enjoyed the show. His Instagram post read, “This makes a compelling case for subway travel!! … wheeeeeeee!!!!
