Woman’s poster to track down her mystery man goes viral

While sitting on the beach in a small seaside town in New Zealand, a Scottish backpacker named Sarah saw a cute, shirtless guy playing with his dog by the water.

Instead of running after him, Sarah posted a hand-drawn sign in an attempt to track him down.

Her sign reads:
“Is this you? I was sitting on the grass on Friday watching the sea… you were playing with your dog. You ran past me and smiled. Would you like to go for a drink/coffee/walk??? I’m in Wellington just now, my ferry arrives back in Picton on Tuesday 3rd. I’m in town for 1 night only… But let’s see how things go… On the off-chance you are single, remember who I am and would like to meet for a drink/coffee/walk. I’ll be sitting on the grass, watching the sea from 1-1.30pm onwards on Tuesday… Maybe you’ll run past again?!?”

Her note, complete with an illustration of the man and his dog, asked the stranger to meet her at the same spot when she came back into town on Tuesday. And just in case someone wanted to tear down her sign, she made a plea to the community to not remove it, in the spirit of happy endings.

The note became a viral sensation thanks to Facebook, and many people in the community were anxious to see how the story would play out.

On Sunday, a man named William Chalmers came forward and said he was the person mentioned in the note.

When the big day rolled around, there were crowds and television crews by the meeting spot to witness the couple’s first rendezvous.

Sarah was sitting in the agreed-upon location, but was shy and embarrassed about the situation: “I hate cameras and being the center of attention.”

Lo and behold, the stranger from the beach showed up and introduced himself to her. Chalmers walked over to where Sarah was sitting and said, “Hello, I’m William. You know, you could have just asked for my number. Let’s go somewhere and have a drink, away from everyone.”

The pair walked away, while the crowd clapped and cheered. Hopefully, they will live happily ever after.
