Say Goodbye to Chris and Ann: Rob Lowe, Rashida Jones Leaving 'Parks and Recreation'

This is literally the worst news we've heard all day.

Stars Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones are leaving "Parks and Recreation" next season, sources have confirmed to The Wrap, TV Line, The Hollywood Reporter, and Variety. The news was first reported by Buzzfeed.

Jones, who plays nurse Ann Perkins, has been with the series from the pilot. Lowe's upbeat city manager Chris Traeger joined in Season 2. The two dated and broke up, but decided to try to conceive a child together last season.

No reason for Lowe and Jones's departure has been given, but the duo would leave in the 13th episode, likely during February sweeps. Considering their recent storylines, it's probable that Ann and Chris get pregnant and leave Pawnee together.

"Parks and Recreation" faces quite a few changes when it premieres Sept. 26 with a special hour-long episode set in London. Chris Pratt is expected to miss a few episodes while filming "Guardians of the Galaxy." His character's wife, April (Aubrey Plaza), was accepted to veterinary school out of town. And fan favorite Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) will become a father.

The exits are shocking since both Lowe and Jones are key regulars on the series. Perhaps the low-rated, critically-acclaimed comedy is trying to shake things up to bring in more viewers. After all, original cast member Paul Schneider left at the end of season 1, which led to Lowe and Adam Scott's arrival.

Or maybe Lowe — who left "The West Wing" early, too, if you recall — is itching to try new things. Jones might want to focus on her movie career as well as a new development deal she signed with Warner Bros. Television.

NBC and reps for Lowe and Rashida have yet to respond to a request for comment.
