The Chinese edition of GQ has pulled its July issue because of "an unflattering article" on wealthy young people, according to the Wall Street Journal.

So far, GQ won't discuss exactly why the issue has been recalled.

But the Journal has an idea. The paper reports that an article in the Global Times—also now pulled offline—claimed “that the founder of Beijing’s Sports Car Club, who was featured in the piece, threatened to sue GQ over the story.”

The Club owner—who the Journal doesn’t name—supposedly alleged that the GQ reporter didn’t reveal he was recording their interviews.

The controversial article—“Super Kids Driving Luxury Cars"—describes young elitist Chinese who are obsessed with cars, fashion and money.

A spokeswoman for GQ's parent company, Conde Nast ,did not return The Upshot’s request for comment.
