Rumors swirl about Chelsea Clinton’s upcoming wedding

Is any secret safe? First, federal investigators uncover a Russian spy ring. And now the locale of Chelsea Clinton's wedding has leaked.

The Associated Press broke the news today quotes an unnamed source divulging that the media-shy former first daughter is set to tie the knoton Jul 31 with Marc Mezvinsky, a Goldman Sachs investment banker in the upstate New York town of Rhinebeck.

What will the ceremony be like?

Clinton and Mezvinsky -- whose dad is a former Iowa congressman later sentenced to federal prison on mail and wire fraud charges -- will recite their vows before friends and family at the Astor Courts mansion on the outskirts of the town, which is approximately two hours north of New York City.

The AP report mentions that the Clintons will hire local high school and college students to spruce up the mansion’s grounds to lend suficient pomp to the wedding of the daughter of a former president and current Secretary of State.

Who's invited?

The event's elite guest list has been a better-kept secret than the locale--so far, anyway. But we do know at least one couple who won’t be attending: Al and Tipper Gore.

The New York Daily News’ Frank Digiacomo reports today that the recently separated Gores will be giving the nuptials a pass.

"The Gores are not attending the wedding," Gore spokeswoman Kalee Kreider said in a statement. "They both wish Chelsea well, believe she is a wonderful young woman, and they share in the family's excitement."

That's understandable, given the adversity Bill Clinton’s former vice-president is facing these days. He's had the breakup of his marriage splashed across the gossip pages. And the Portland police department announced this week that it will re-open its investigation of an area masseuse's claim that Gore sexually assaulted her in a hotel room in 2006.

Will Bill Clinton hit his weight goal?

Back in April, the former president said that his daughter was demanding he lose at least 15 pounds in order to be in tux-worthy form when he walks her down the aisle.

"You know, she told me the other day, she said, 'Dad, the only thing you gotta do is walk me down the aisle, and you need to look good,'” Clinton said during a Q&A at a fiscal summit. Clinton told a questioner who asked how close he was to his target weight that he was about “halfway home.”

It's still not clear he's made it all the way--though the signs are encouragin. In late May, CBS reported that a “noticeably thinner” Clinton felt he was just two pounds shy of his goal. Speculation has run high over the ex-president's weigh-loss regimen--one popular theory has it that he’s been on a strict diet of cabbage soup. Still, we trust that when the happy day arrives, he'll be able to indulge himself with a few of those tasty cocktail meatballs that seem to be on just about every wedding reception menu. Surely they’ll be serving those at the Astor Court mansion, right?
