6 interesting things about Alex Ovechkin’s new house

Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin recently bought a new house in McLean, Va., that is huge, secluded, and expensive. With five bedrooms, almost twice as many bathrooms, and a chandelier in nearly every room, the house is built to impress. The 11,000-square-foot house on Woodside Drive cost him $4.275 million, and a closer look at the listing photos reveals a few noteworthy items.

Check out the photos at right to see the following details:

    1. Creepy sconces that somehow make a recessed sink look like an altar.
    2. A basement rec room that looks big enough for to host a professional hockey game (street hockey, in this case).
    3. A master bedroom with both a wet bar and a fireplace, depending which mood he wants to set.
    4. A penguin scene etched into the glass of a bathroom sink.
    5. The kitchen's three chandeliers and unusual island: See how one side is constructed to give the impression that it is more of a dining room table than a kitchen workspace?
    6. A backyard swing set in case Ovechkin needs to burn off some energy.

His agent managed to talk the seller down by about a hundred thousand since the original ask was $4,395,000. It's a good thing the guy can play hockey, because he would never have been able to afford this house on his hip-hop skills.

Amy Dobson, who are you? Your take on Alex's very typical kitchen island is bizar. Those aren't chandeliers and having an overhang and stools is the norm. Especially in Mclean. Your take on this stuff is very bizar

I think i would have put that etched penguin in the back of the toilet bowl as a target. Would make for a much better conversation!

Well the penguin sink is a bit weird, but I don't really see anything unusual about the rest of the house. The island is unusual? Seriously? Making fun of the swingset. Gee, you think maybe the previous owners had kids? Does anyone at Yahoo! have a brain?

The answer to that qestion is no. No one at yahoo seems to have a brain. At least the writers do not, and editors let it through so they fail as well.

Maybe it's me, but I'm failing to see what the story is here.

Amy Rose Dobson...so what? It's his money, the house looks absoutely beautiful and if this is what he wanted, great for him...I hope he enjoys his new home...stop being so jealous!

Those are chandeliers? LOL. Did this broad grow up in a trailer?

All of the houses in McLean look like that, it's nice though! :-)

4 mil and property tax of only 10k. How big is the lot, 1/6 of an acre??
      • Mike 3 mths ago
In Virginia we get screwed with a 5% income tax...thats why our property tax is lower than other states..
      • Timothy 3 mths ago
No, his property taxes will be about $40,000 a year once the county assessment comes in. The $10,000/year you see reflects the property taxes on the tear-down home that existed before this nice home was built.

That's where people with brains go. Who wants to give the total idiots n DC there money that they worked for so hard for, so they can just waste it?

      Lame article!
    • Chris  •  Washington, District of Columbia  •  3 mths ago
That is nothing for Mclean, VA.

It's painfully obvious that this writer has never watched any programs on HGTV. Nothing weird or unusual at all about this house!

Typical Yahoo news peice. Remarkable only in it's lack of news or relevance. The listing photos that are referenced here were produced by the seller and are not actually furnishings installed by Ovechkin. For all we know, Ovechkin has or will remodel all of this stuff and have it furnished to his liking. This is nothing more than Amy Dobson slumming on a slow news day. She would be better suited to writing a gossip column.

this article is a streeeeeetch... I feel like i'm missing something. It's a normal, nice looking house for a rich person.

      Penguins?!?!?! Really Alex?
    • T  •  Washington, District of Columbia  •  3 mths ago
You'd think he'd have the penguin scene etched in the toilet.

Uh . . why is this reporter's exaggerated personal opinion news?
    • DG  •  3 mths ago
gotta get rid of those penguins but otherwise looks like any other $4 million house
    • QuietStorm  •  3 mths ago
Why dont you post the ACTUAL photos of some of the rooms you mention in the house. This is your typical newer Mclean home and price - I myself being in the real estate market in this very area, this writer is trying to make something out of nothing.

Nice house but I have to agree with everyone else nothing major different about this house, looks like any other mansion in the dmv area.
