As the leaves begin to fall off the trees, we thought we would take a look at a few green roofs just to remind us of warmer seasons. Here are four we thought deserved special mention. Click on the photos to see larger versions, and check out the link at the bottom for more cool rooftops.

An example of a great client and architect collaboration that leads to an amazing project. Kieran Timberlake architects transformed the school campus with their addition and renovation and gave the school a tangible representation of their ideals. The green roof also contains herb gardens for school kids as part of their curriculum.

Not to be outdone at its own game, ASLA set out to create a project to demonstrate the possibilities and benefits of a green roof on top of its own home. Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates produced an accessible area that negotiates limited space and

Michelle Obama helped hundreds of schoolchildren kick off a 24-hour exercise challenge Tuesday on the south lawn of the White House.

In a bid to break the Guinness world record for the most people in multiple places doing jumping jacks in a day, Obama led the kids in one minute of exercise.

"I'm the first lady, and I get to do lots of stuff," she told the crowd. "But I never thought in my entire life that I would be here today trying to break a Guinness world record."

The current record is 20,425 people.

Obama's trainer, Cornell McClellan, was on hand to help the students limber up, although his time might have been better spent helping the first lady with her form. She inadvertently hit the student beside her during her first jumping jack.

TV personality Al Roker and figure skater Michelle Kwan served as official witnesses and timekeepers. Roker quizzed the students on topics such as the name of the president's limousine (Cadillac One) and the inventors

From the listing photos, this 18,000-square-foot mansion might look like a grand historic European villa set amid park-like grounds, but sadly, this place is set on a cramped lot in a Potomac, Md., subdivision. That hasn't kept the palatial limestone manse from asking an astounding $6.9 million, although the staging, or the lack thereof, is a little disappointing.

The seven-bedroom, nine-and-a-half-bath spread was built by local luxe builder David Niroo and includes an extravagant Italian wood-paneled library. There's a pool and home theater (of course), but also one of those central vacuum set-ups so the maids and butlers don't have to spend as much time on dusting the knick-knacks.

Looks like that $1.5 million modern on 1.3 acres in Potomac that Curbed DC turned up really is a good deal.
