    Blott Asset wins Deal of the Year for TMT at 6th Annual Turnaround Awards

    Canwest restructuring noted as landmark turnaround

    The M&A Advisor announced the winners of the M&A Advisor Turnaround Awards at the 6th Annual Awards Gala to a lively, sold-out crowd at The Colony, Palm Beach Florida on Monday January 31st. Blott Asset Management, L.L.C. was named a winner in the "Deal of the Year" category for technology, media, and telecom, for its role in facilitating a restructuring of Canwest Global Communications on behalf of shareholders.

    "Blott Asset represents the best of the turnaround, restructuring and distressed investing industry in 2011 and earned this honor by standing out in a group of very impressive finalists," said Roger Aguinaldo, CEO of The M&A Advisor. Blott Asset was chosen from over 160 nominees representing over 250 companies to receive their award. An independent judging committee of industry experts determined the ultimate recipients of the awards.

    "Canwest represented a complex cross border restructuring of a major Canadian media company, adjudicated by one of the country's preeminent justices", said Patrick Blott, the firm's managing partner. "It established important practical limits on the ability of creditors to impinge the legitimate rights of other stakeholders through safe harbor, fraudulent conveyance, structural seniority, absolute priority doctrine or other means. It is an honor for Blott Asset to be nominated for this distinguished award alongside notable industry leaders including Wilbur Ross, John Castle, and Marshall Sonenshine."    

    In addition to the 2012 honorees, John Wm. (Jack) Butler, Partner of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for his achievements and contributions in restructuring and reorganizational law. Mr. Butler, who was introduced by another industry stalwart – Mr. Timothy R. Coleman, Sr. Managing Director & Head of Restructuring, The Blackstone Group - provided a moving and inspirational account of his experience and his vision for the future of bankruptcy law.
