Board may request $5M for ND oil country colleges

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota's Board of Higher Education may ask lawmakers for $5 million for colleges in the state's western oil country.

The board is meeting in Williston Thursday.

Board President Grant Shaft says the money would address housing shortages, faculty turnover, campus security and other issues caused by the region's oil boom.

It would be targeted at Williston State College, Bismarck State College, Minot State University and Dickinson State University.

The board is going over its budget request to the 2013 Legislature during its Williston meeting, and the $5 million in oil impact money could be part of it.
