Body found in burning van as police launch probe into ‘unexplained’ death

Police have launched an investigation after a man's body was discovered in a burning van on the outskirts of a town. The grim discovery was made by officers who had been called to Paget Street, in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffs., at 7.55pm on Sunday evening (13/8). Fire crews were first called to the industrial estate and after the blaze was extinguished a body was found in the back of the burnt out vehicle. Staffordshire Police are now probing the 'unexplained death' and has urged any witnesses or those with information to get in touch. A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: "We are investigating following the discovery of a man’s body in the back of a van that was on fire in Burton. "We were called to by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service at 7.55pm this evening (Sunday 13 August) after they were called about a van fire. "A man’s body was recovered from the van once fire crews had dealt with the fire. "The death is currently being treated as unexplained. A post mortem will be carried out in due course to establish the cause of death. "We are keen to speak to anyone with any dashcam footage from the area or those with any information which could help."
