Body found in retention pond near I-275 and Gandy Boulevard, officers say

St. Petersburg first responders recovered a body found Monday in a retention pond near Interstate 275 and Gandy Boulevard, St. Petersburg Police Department officers said.

Yolanda Fernandez, St. Petersburg Police Department spokesperson, said it is too early to tell anything about the body, including the person’s identity and how they died.

“Investigators will rely on the Medical Examiner to determine the gender, race, and age of the victim,” the agency said in a news release Monday afternoon.

Officers said the St. Petersburg Fire Rescue Dive Team helped recover the body.
