Body of Maine man missing for nearly a year found in Stark

Apr. 23—The body of a Maine man missing nearly a year has been found in Stark, the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office said.

On Friday, state police and New Hampshire Fish and Game conservation officers, assisted by Maine State Police, the Windham (Maine) Police Department, and Maine Warden Service, conducted a search in Stark during which human remains were located.

The remains were taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Concord, where an autopsy was performed by Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Mitchell L. Weinberg.

The cause and manner of the man's death are not being released at this time, the Attorney General's Office said in a news release, but the remains have been identified as Alex Jackson, 34, of Windham, Maine.

Jackson disappeared on or around May 14, 2023. Joseph Chute, 30, of Leeds, Maine, is currently charged with Jackson's murder.

Chute is charged with one count of intentional or knowing murder in the death. He was arraigned in Androscoggin County Superior Court earlier this month.
