Body of missing Japanese diver found off Bali
BALI, Indonesia (AP) — A body in a diving suit that was recovered Tuesday off the coast of Indonesia's Bali island has been identified as one of two Japanese women who have been missing since last week, police said.
Capt. Nyoman Wijaya, chief detective at Klungkung police, said the body was identified as Ritsuko Miyata, 59, by her family from a wedding ring on her finger.
Seven female divers from Japan, including two instructors, went missing last Friday while scuba diving at Nusa Lembongan island off Bali's southern coast. Poor weather hampered the rescue efforts.
On Monday, five were found, weak but unharmed, in two separate locations on a rocky outcrop.
Miyata's body was discovered by people playing in the sea in the Serangan area of the island, about 20 miles (33 kilometers) west of where the five women were rescued Monday.
Police official Felix Sangkalia said based on an autopsy, Miyata was believed to have died at least three days ago.
The search for the other woman, 35-year-old Shoko Takahashi, will continue Wednesday.
