Boehner mum on Holder as ‘Fast and Furious’ investigation gathers momentum

House Speaker John Boehner is continuing to avoid questions from The Daily Caller about whether he supports the 103 members of the House of Representatives who want action to remove Attorney General Eric Holder over Operation Fast and Furious.

Several bloggers who have covered the investigation into the gunwalking scandal reported on Friday that Boehner and his staff have slowed the probe being led by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

“Yesterday was the devil’s own day in the Gunwalker scandal investigation and the search for the truth suffered as a result,” wrote Mike Vanderboegh at the Sipsey Street Irregulars blog. “Several sources tell Sipsey Street that the committee’s work has been slowed by the intervention of Speaker of the House John Boehner, with some saying plainly that ‘the fix is in.’”

Vanderboegh’s report appeared Friday, one day after Holder testified before the House oversight committee. Boehner’s office adamantly denies the report, but his spokesman Michael Steel continues to dodge TheDC’s questions about where the Speaker stands on the growing scandal’s specifics.

“Such speculation is absurd and untrue,” Steel said in an email to TheDC when asked to respond to the bloggers’ allegations. “The Speaker appreciates the hard work that Chairman Issa and many others have done to expose this scandal. President Obama’s Department of Justice needs to be accountable.”

TheDC followed up and asked Steel if his boss supports the 103 Republican House members who have either demanded Holder’s resignation or expressed “no confidence” in him via a formal House resolution, or both.

Rather than answer the question to quell concerns about the strength of Boehner’s leadership as the controversy gathers steam, Steel dodged it by responding with the same exact boilerplate message just nine minutes after he sent it the first time.

“The Speaker appreciates the hard work that Chairman Issa and many others have done to expose this scandal,” Steel emailed again. “President Obama’s Department of Justice needs to be accountable.”

Steel used identical language to respond when TheDC asked him the same question in mid-January at the House Republican retreat in Baltimore.

Steel would not answer, however, when TheDC asked him if Boehner supports House oversight committee chairman Rep. Darrell Issa’s threat to hold Holder in contempt of Congress if he fails to produce subpoenaed documents by Issa’s Feb. 9 deadline.

Steel also wouldn’t answer when TheDC asked him if the speaker supports Issa’s call for Holder to apologize to the Mexican government, and to the families of the more than 300 victims of Operation Fast and Furious in Mexico.

Those who remember watergate should also remember that the "crime" was actually ridiculous, and what brought down Nixon was the subsequent cover up. This is a much more serious crime costing unknown numbers of innocent people on both sides of the river their lives, including some US law enforcement. And the cover up by the doj (and higher?) is every bit as egregious as was whitewater. Resignations are the least that should be expected.

As it was reported in other articles, congress has made themselves exempt from having to follow the very laws they force us to follow. Boehner will keep his mouth shut on this issue simply because he knows it was an illegal operation from the start and he does not want to press the legality of the issue. If he did press the legality, it would show him to be that much more a double standard lying, cheating criminal we all know the capitol hill bunch are.

Google "Obama's Aunt" if you want to see an example of the Democrats welfare system in action. She has been in this country illegally for years......recently legalized. As an illegal, she was receiving a disability check, free housing, free healthcare (Medicaid), food stamps, etc. During the interview, she was asked if she felt guilty about receiving benefits from programs she never contributed to. She responded by saying she felt no guilt and added that Americans were obligated to take care of her. Thanks to Democrats, taxpayers are paying hundreds of billions in entitlements annually to illegals. Also, Democrats are fighting against showing ID to register to vote.......that's why illegals are voting in parts of the country.

The GOP and our govt in general is so afraid of being politically incorrect they can't even govern for fear they will look bad and not be re-elected. We need to throw these bums out and get some people in there who are accountabel for their action.

Democrats are directly responsible for the housing collapse by implementing their "affordable housing" initiative to put the poor in homes they couldn't afford. Democrats worked with Fannie/Freddie to lower qualifications for home loans. Banks and mortgage companies didn't care because they knew Fannie/Fredddie would buy any mortgage without question, or review.......F/F CEOs made millions. Barney Frank didn't raise the red flag when Fannie/Freddie started tanking.......in fact, he denied it!!! Bush tried to regulate Fannie/Freddie several times since 2001, but was blocked by Democrats. Barney agreed with Democrats blocking Bush and said, "I'm willing to rioll the dice on this one".......SNAKE EYES!!! Democrats were directly responsible for the housing collapse and resulting economic disaster by meddling in the housing industry.

It was a compilation of bad decisions by both parties. Its not one thing that set off the problems, it was a string of things. Some by dems, some by repubs. Repealing parts of Glass-Steagall made it possible for investment banking and commercial banking to inter mingle. Which means the banks could loan basically to themselves without the capital to cover a bad investment. This also created the "to big to fail" mentality. This was probably one of the biggest reasons of the collapse. The call to change this law was pushed by 2 repubs. but many dems were on board with it as well.

Some of you people need to get involved AND learn about who and what you're voting for. Don't some of you think it's time to get off of the "my guy is great and your guy sucks" kick? Remember, these congressman and woman effect US ALL. Use the brain "God" gave you AND VOTE like it matters. JEEEEEEZE If some of you still refuse to vote for the good of the community and yourselves then at least consider your grandkids and the urine that will end up on your graves.

We will never know as it was impossible to tell who got the guns almost as soon as they were allowed out of the store, and Boehner is slowing the investigation ? I think he must be a Democrat .

For Boehner to stay "mum" on the subject of the lying Holder is not exactly in line with the "T bagger" movement Moony. Get you act together. Oh yeah, btw, the Tea Party movement is the sentiment shared by MANY MILLIONS of good Americans, You, my friend would not qualify on the good American ticket.

Obama tried to pass Cap & Trade for quite some time, but was blocked by Republicans. Cap & Trade was meant to raise the price of fossil fuels to negate the significant difference in price between fossil fuels and alternative energy. We all want cleaner air, but an economic disaster is not the time to switch.....especially, if our competitors aren't willing to sign on. Projections indicate that untility bills would have increased 2 1/2 times and gas would cost $7-9/gal if Cap & Trade had passed. Alternative energy is very expensive.......it would increase the the price of goods/services rendering America less competitive in the global economy leading to higher unemployment and higher trade deficits.

ITS TIME to clean up WASHINGTON!!!
American Taxpayers should demand of Congess and the Senate to provide financials from the date they were elected. Then a non partisan third party review their financials as well as the legislation they passed and attempted to pass during that same period.
Any and all politicians caught attempting or passing legislation that benefits them or their family financially, will be prosecuted to the full limits of the law!
America say NO to "Congressional Insider Trading".
