    San Francisco design store and gallery, Rare Device, is proud to present Boneless. Un-scientific Prints of Marine Molluscs, Medusae, etc. Work by Doug Ross. The work will occupy the Rare Device gallery August 5 – September 2, 2011. A reception for the artist will be held Friday, August 5 from 6 - 8 pm.

    Inspired by his recent certification as a SCUBA diver, Doug Ross's latest show consists of limited edition silkscreen prints of the underwater world. The subject is specifically invertebrates, because their lack of a skeleton seems to have allowed nature the freedom to invent crazy creative forms, which makes the artist's task of being inventive already partly achieved. Total disregard for commercial prospects of the subject matter was necessary but we hope that sea slug and jellyfish lovers come out of the closet for this show.

    About Doug Ross:


    Leading up to his current career as an creator of fine art silkscreen prints, Doug worked as a graphic designer for a few years, then as a freelance illustrator for many years. Around 1991 Doug became one of the few illustrators working 100% digitally in the SF Bay area. Clients then were McWorld, Sun, KQED plus many from the east coast such as BusinessWeek, Forbes and the Atlantic.

    The modernist esthetic that was taught to him in graphic design school became one of the central themes when Doug, in 2007, began producing silkscreen prints for the fine art market in a home-built studio. All of the equipment except the actual screens are his creations. The prints themselves are clean and precise with help from digital processes.

    Now represented in stores in Santa Cruz and San Francisco, he also has about four shows a year, and hopes to transition into fine art full time in the next few years.
