The Super Bowl is almost upon us and football season is just about done. That means it's about time to start gearing up for baseball's spring training.
If you're a diehard Boston Red Sox fan, it means it's about time to head south to Fort Myers, Fla., to JetBlue Park at Fenway South for a month of fun, sun, and Red Sox baseball.
JetBlue Park
JetBlue Park at Fenway South is the new home of the Boston Red Sox. It's been under construction for months and is expected to be ready to open in time for the 2012 spring training season. The Red Sox are scheduled for 18 games from March 3 through April 2. It's a great time for a long vacation with some Red Sox baseball in the sun. If you're flying in, you're in luck. The new ballpark is located just across highway 876 from Southwest Florida International Airport. If you're driving down, just take Interstate 75 south through Fort Myers to county highway 876 and go east. It's just a couple of miles on your left. You can't miss it.
Best Seats in the House
Seating will likely fill up fast in the new stadium, so you'll want to get your tickets quick. The park is new, so it's hard to say just where the best seats will be, but as they are loosely modeling the new park on Fenway Park, it's a good bet that seating will be similar. My personal favorite seats are along the 3rd-base line. I prefer to sit somewhere in sections 104 to 108. It gives you a great vantage point to watch that home stretch where the action takes place when a runner breaks for home. It's also a great place to be for catching a stray foul ball.
Concessions
If the concession stands are anything like Fenway, you can expect classics such as the Fenway Frank, Bag of Burgers, pizza, pretzels, and popcorn, among other things. On a nice spring day you may be hankering for a beer with the game. Don't worry, they won't run out.
Tickets
Ticket prices range from $5 on the lawn to $46 at the home plate dugout box. If you're looking for a little bit of home, grab a seat near the Green Monster SRO for $15 or in the Green Monster Deck Seats for $25. Order your tickets at the Boston Red Sox website and have them mailed to you or waiting for you at will call.
