    Boston University to study hockey team 'culture' after two players charged with sexual assault

    BOSTON - Boston University is forming a task force to study the "culture and climate" of its men's hockey team after two players were arrested for allegedly assaulting female students this season.

    In a letter sent to students, trustees and employees, BU President Robert Brown said the charges in the two cases "understandably lead to questions about whether the hockey team's culture and climate have contributed in some way to the actions of the two individuals."

    "The University must address these questions and, if deficiencies are identified, make appropriate and necessary changes," Brown said.

    In December, Corey Trivino, 21, of Toronto, was arrested on indecent assault and battery charges after he allegedly forced his way into a female student's dorm room, tried to kiss her and repeatedly groped her. Trivino, a 2008 draft pick of the New York Islanders, was then the leading goal scorer in Hockey East, with 13 in 15 games.

    Earlier this week, junior defenceman Max Nicastro was charged with raping a female student. Nicastro is a 2008 Detroit Red Wings draft pick from Thousand Oaks, Calif.

    Both players have pleaded not guilty. They were both suspended from the team.

    Brown said the formation of the task force does not reflect a judgment about the facts in the two cases.

    "The constitution of the task force does, however, reflect a University-level judgment that the two incidents indicate something systemic or habitual may foster a team climate that does not comport with the highest stands of conduct we seek to maintain for all members of our community," Brown wrote in his letter.

      It is time for Jack Parker to retire.... his coaching leadership has lost its lustre. Like Joe Paterno, he looked the other way when he knew his players were acting dishonorably.

      The funny part is this has gone on forever. Mens and womens hockey, male coaches with female players, female coaches with female players, male players being abused by male coaches......it is indeed a culture in hockey but I think all college sports...........never heard about it in the major sports however.....the University's know but do nothing......the administrators are real lazy..........yes I can name names and schools.......just look for schools with a player coaching one or two years out with the same coach..............just saying......

      The problem is in any large college program such as football, basketball, baseball and to a lesser extent hockey, there are always those atheletes that behave badly and have a sense of entitlement. They have been programmed this way since their talents became apparent and exploitable. Colleges make super-sized dollars off of major men's programs and as a result, many take the "boys will be boys attitude". It's sad but true.

      Check the "culture" of ALL the teams. Stuff like this is seldom one sport, but campus wide.

      just look at the names of the two players if you want to investigate "the culture". maybe they could jobs as cruise line captains.

      It's the same with all men's groups - from sports teams to the Boy Scouts to the military. It's call TMT...too much testosterone.
