Box Office: ‘A Walk in the Woods’ Strolls to $1.2 Million on Wednesday
“A Walk in the Woods” opened to $1.2 million on Wednesday, with the adaptation of Bill Bryson’s humorous wilderness saga looking to get a jump on the Labor Day Weekend.
It is expected to gross $9 million over its first six days in theaters and $7 million over the four-day weekend. Broad Green, a newly launched indie label from brothers Gabriel and Daniel Hammond, picked up the film at the Sundance Film Festival.
Robert Redford, Nick Nolte and Emma Thompson star in the movie about a travel writer and his out-of-shape friend who embark on a hike along the Appalachian Trail. The film is trying to target the same older audiences who made films like “Grandma” and “I’ll See You in My Dreams” arthouse hits.
This weekend also brings the release of “The Transporter Refueled,” a reboot of the action franchise with newcomer Ed Skrein filling in for Jason Statham. That pic is expected to make $9 million.
Both “A Walk in the Woods” and “The Transporter Refueled” are expected to trail “Straight Outta Compton,” which should top the box office for a fourth consecutive weekend while pulling in $10 million over the holiday.
