Boy, 12, questioned by police all night after 16-year-old brother shot dead

MONTREAL - Montreal police say they have spent hours questioning a 12-year-old boy in the suspected accidental shooting death of his 16-year-old brother.

A spokesman for the force says there could be charges — such as improper use of a weapon or involuntary homicide — after yesterday's shooting in the Dorval suburb.

Simon Delorme says the boy was arrested at the family home Monday evening and questioned by investigators overnight, until 5:30 a.m.

He says the boy was accompanied by a parent during the interrogation.

Delorme says the teenager was shot in the upper body by a handgun that police believe could belong to the family.

He says police will not reveal the calibre of the gun, or whether it was registered, until investigators are finished meeting with potential witnesses.
