Breastfeeding Pictures Get the Official Okay from Facebook
Facebook and Instagram have come under fire for their stance on nipples. (In photos, that is.) A pro-nipple movement (that is a thing) exploded on social media, using the hashtag #FreeTheNipple. Instagram dealt with backlash from Rihanna and Scout Willis for banning nipples in their photos. Facebook removed a photo of a prominent mommy blogger breastfeeding as well, which spurred the movement further.
Now, Facebook has quietly changed their stance on e-nipples. Facebook added the following statement to their Help page several weeks ago, but did not publicly confirm their stance on breastfeeding images until today:
Does Facebook allow photos of mothers breastfeeding?
Yes. We agree that breastfeeding is natural and beautiful and we're glad to know that it's important for mothers to share their experiences with others on Facebook. The vast majority of these photos are compliant with our policies.
Please note that the photos we review are almost exclusively brought to our attention by other Facebook members who complain about them being shared on Facebook.
Keep in mind this is specific to breastfeeding nipples — sexual and pornographic photos are still not allowed, so don't go posting your nipples willy nilly.
