Brian Harman makes two aces in Barclays final round
Third time a player recorded two aces in one Tour round
For a few moments Sunday afternoon the buzz at The Barclays was squarely fixed on a guy who would tie for 31st place.
As Mark Wilson completed his round he paused before signing his scorecard to ask if Brian Harman’s two holes-in-one on Sunday were a first on the PGA Tour. Nope, it was the third time a player recorded two aces in one Tour round.
“Third? Of course, these guys are good, right?” Wilson laughed.
Harman began his historic assault with a 7-iron from 184 yards at No. 3 that landed short of the hole and rolled in to move him to even par for the day after a bogey-bogey start.
He added his second of the day – and the second of his Tour career – 11 holes later at No. 14 when his 4-iron found the hole from 220 yards.
The last player to record two aces in a single Tour round was Japan's Yusaku Miyazato at the Reno-Tahoe Open in 2006. The first was amateur Bill Whedon in the 1955 Insurance City Open (now theTravelers Championship).
“I'm not surprised it's been done before. I'm surprised it was only six years ago,” said Harman, who finished with a 68 for a 2-under total for the week.
Harman’s round almost got even better when he nearly holed out his approach shot at the par-4 17th hole from 173 yards.
“I knew it was going to be good off the face. Obviously we can't see up that hill. I heard the way they were reacting,” he said of his approach at No. 17. “It's like, damn, man, I'm going to have three of these things today.”
Although he was looking forward to celebrating his two-ace day, he did add that the timing could have been a little better since he was planning to spend Sunday night in New York City with some friends and was likely going to be stuck with a hefty bar tab.
“It's going to hurt. It's going to hurt real bad,” he smiled.
