Bridge re-installed following successful repair
A Grade II-listed cast iron footbridge which was taken away for repair has been re-installed.
The Kingsweston Iron Bridge, which links the Blaise Castle estate and Kingsweston Fields in Bristol, was craned back into place on Tuesday.
Bristol City Council closed the "unsafe and unstable" bridge in 2015 after it sustained damage to the east underside from being hit by a truck. It was struck again in 2018, on the north underside.
A council spokesperson said it was aiming to reopen the bridge in its new raised position in July.
Kings Weston Road, which has also been partly closed since 15 January, should reopen in May, the spokesperson added.
Repair work began in November when heritage-accredited contractors dismantled the bridge.
The fully repaired and restored bridge has been raised 3ft 3in (1m) higher and steps are set to be installed at either end of the structure.
The £1.1m restoration project was funded by the council's Highway Infrastructure Bridge Investments fund.
