Building ‘a movement’: Hillary Clinton to push for gun control

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will outline specific steps she would take to curb gun violence, if elected, during scheduled campaign stops in New Hampshire on Monday. Seizing the moment following last week’s mass shooting in Oregon, Clinton will call for the repeal of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, legislation that shields gun manufacturers, distributors and dealers from most liability suits, even in the case of mass shootings. As a New York senator, Clinton voted against the law in 2005 and, a campaign official said, would lead an effort to repeal it if elected president.

We don’t just need to pray for people. We need to act and we need to build a movement. It’s infuriating.

Clinton will also push Congress to pass laws that prohibit all domestic abusers, including stalkers, from purchasing guns and to close what she will call the “Charleston loophole.” Currently, if a background check is not completed within three days, a gun sale can proceed. Clinton will amplify her recent calls to make the background check system more comprehensive and her calls to keep “military-style assault weapons” off streets by pledging to repeal a 2005 law that she says gives gun manufacturers and dealers “immunity.”
