Burundi inflation slows to 3.5 pct y/y in January

BUJUMBURA (Reuters) - Burundi's inflation eased to 3.5 percent year-on-year from 3.8 percent in December, helped by a fall in costs for furnishings and household equipment, official data showed on Thursday. Price inflation for furnishings and household articles fell to 9.9 percent in the year to January from 10.5 percent in December, Burundi’s Institute of Economic Studies and Statistics (ISTEEBU) said in its report. The average inflation rate in the landlocked African country of nearly 10 million people, declined to 4.4 percent in 2014 from 7.9 percent in 2013, thanks to lower international fuel and food import prices.
