Buying a Galaxy S5 next week? Here’s how to sell your old Galaxy S4 for the most money

Buying a Galaxy S5 next week? Here’s how to sell your old Galaxy S4 for the most money

For gadget enthusiasts or anyone else who might be a fan of technology, buying a new smartphone is just awesome. The days and weeks that follow are packed with surprises as you get to know your new device and configure it to suit your needs. Selling your old phone to help recoup some of the expense involved, however, can be one of the most frustrating parts of getting a new phone.

If you’re currently a Galaxy S4 owner planning to upgrade to a new Galaxy S5 when it launches next week, there are plenty of options when it comes to offloading your old smartphone. Trading it in with your carrier for a credit toward your new phone is by far the easiest, but it’s also the worst option if you’re looking to get as much bang for your buck as possible.

For those looking to get a little more out of their devices, there are basically three options: you can sell your Galaxy S4 on eBay, sell it on Craigslist, or make use of one of the many used smartphone purchasing services out there.

One of them, UpgradeSwap, has put together a nice little comparison for those looking to weigh their options.

On its blog, UpgradeSwap posted the results of some digging. It found that on eBay, the asking prices for used Galaxy S4 handsets on eBay ranged from $70 to $397 based on device model and condition. Asking prices on Craigslist varied even more, ranging from $180 to $550.

Among the four gadget buying services covered in the post, UpgradeSwap found that its own service offered the best prices. This isn’t exactly surprising, of course, though a quick check of the four listed services yielded prices that are in line with UpgradeSwap’s findings.

According to the post, UpgradeSwap is offering Galaxy S4 owners between $85 and $230 for their phones depending on condition and model. Meanwhile, the site says Gazelle’s payouts range from $50 to $193, uSell ranges from $46 to $182 and Nextworth pays between $33 and $128.

So if you’re getting ready to sell your old GS4 in the next week or two, head over to UpgradeSwap’s blog, which is linked below in our source section.
