    Cain campaign accuses Politico of ‘unsubstantiated personal attacks’

    Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain’s campaign is accusing Politico of “unsubstantiated personal attacks” after the news outlet published a story Sunday night claiming two unnamed women made sexual harassment allegations against the candidate more than a decade ago.

    “Fearing the message of Herman Cain who is shaking up the political landscape in Washington, Inside the Beltway media have begun to launch unsubstantiated personal attacks on Cain,” J.D. Gordon, Cain’s spokesman, said in a statement provided to The Daily Caller.

    Gordon continued: “Dredging up thinly sourced allegations stemming from Mr. Cain’s tenure as the Chief Executive Officer at the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s, political trade press are now casting aspersions on his character and spreading rumors that never stood up to the facts.”

    Politico doesn’t name sources or the identities of the two women who the story says “complained to colleagues and senior association officials about inappropriate behavior by Cain” while he served as head of the National Restaurant Association during the ’90s.

    The news outlet described the allegations this way: “These incidents include conversations allegedly filled with innuendo or personal questions of a sexually suggestive nature, taking place at hotels during conferences, at other officially sanctioned restaurant association events and at the association’s offices. There were also descriptions of physical gestures that were not overtly sexual but that made women who experienced or witnessed them uncomfortable and that they regarded as improper in a professional relationship.”

    Gordon didn’t specifically address the allegations in his response, but suggested Cain is the victim, not an aggressor. (RELATED: Cain gets tongue-lashing from CBS for cigarette smoking in ad)

    “Sadly, we’ve seen this movie played out before — a prominent Conservative targeted by liberals simply because they disagree with his politics,” Gordon said. “Mr. Cain — and all Americans, deserve better.”

      So if there is a negative news story about a Republican, all those on the Right immediately dismiss as a conspiracy from the "liberal media." Yet if those same people receive an anonymous email rumor about Obama, they believe its the gospel truth.

      If this type of behavior is in his nature more women will come forward and Cain will be just a bad memory. Unfortunately if the story was made up for political gain the story will still be repeated again and again for political gain. I have no problem with freedom of the press but I really, really dislike their over use of anonymous sources especially when a person’s reputation is on the line.

      AEI Forbids Reporters From Asking Herman Cain About Sexual Harrassment Allegations At Open Forum | GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain is launching a media blitz today, the same day Politico reported on sexual harassment allegations against him that led to financial payouts. At his first public appearance today at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), Cain ducked reporters by entering through the parking garage. Though billing the event as an open “discussion with Herman Cain,” the conservative think tank is now restricting reporters from asking questions about anything other than his 999 plan. As AEI blogger Jim Pethokoukis states:


      ABC reporter Jonathan Karl attempted to ask about the story, but Cain refuses to answer, responding, “I’m going by the ground rules my host has set.”

      I'm waiting to hear the proof and see the records, if there are any, that will substantiate these 2 unnamed women's allegations...

        But showing the documents won't be proving it in a court of law - remember the doubters to Obama's birth certificate. Supposedly the documents relating to this Cain matter have already been through a court of law, at least a settlement approved by a court.

      I dunno if Cain is being particularly wise in this. Politico has a better reputation than Cain and has more proof to back up any claims it makes. Politico doesn't play games. Been watching it for years now.

      Cain is crying about the media HA HA. Try being Ron Paul he won the Iowa straw poll. This morning Yahoo News headline is Romney Cain tied for Iowa. Cain was second but Romney was not even on the map. Ron won with 82%

      If he didn't do it, then I am sure he would have remembered the case as soon as it was brought up. Being sued for sexual harassment is not a forgetful matter. If he did do it he shouldn't be a consideration for political office because he tried to lie his way out. And that goes for all our our elected political leaders! What concerns me is that his story is changing. Considering the chance he didn't do it, then those accusing him should have a suit filed against them.
