CAIR Slams NY Post for Political Cartoon That ‘Evokes Anti-Semitic Themes’

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has called on the New York Post to apologize for a political cartoon published in the paper Friday which CAIR says "evokes anti-Semitic themes" through its depiction of hook-nosed terrorists objecting to the NYPD's surveillance of Muslims without warrant throughout the city.

Muslim Group objects to NY Post cartoon (faceook)

A post on the group's Facebook page indicates that the Muslim civil rights groups is asking American Muslims and "other people of conscience to contact the newspaper and to politely ask that they apologize for the offensive cartoon."

"This offensive and inaccurate political cartoon evokes anti-Semitic themes that would be recognized by any historian of pre-war Nazi Germany," Zead Ramadan, board president of CAIR's New York chapter, said in a statement. "The cartoon is not only offensive in its portrayal of a religious minority; it is also inaccurate in its depiction of those targeted by the NYPD spy campaign in that there is no evidence that those monitored were suspected of wrongdoing of any kind."

CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization.

The organization has made news in the past for applauding West Point for pulling the speaking invite for a General critical of Islam, defending Muslims on the government no-fly list, and members calling for Americans to stop associating 9/11 with the Muslim religion.

The organization writes that its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

Smart move by Islam to use the word anti semitic

Yes Americans, Muslims/Arabs are Semetic people, just like the Jews. Actually, they are cousins. The Jews never admit that, but it is so.

You are wrong. Semitic=language group. Islam=religion. Most Muslims are not Arabs hence not Semitic. Arabs are Semites though.

        Whatever, the whole family stinks.

OK JIMM, good, point. I understand that "Muslim" is a Religion, "Arab" is an ethnic group. But I wasn't sure most Americans knew the difference, so I just lumped them together for purpose of the narrative. The point is, Jews and Arabs are both Semetic peoples. When a person is accused of being "anti semetic", which almost always happens when you even slightly criticize Israel, in reality what the accuser is saying is you don't like either the Jews or the Arabs.

Oops, I thought those gentlemen in the cartoon were Jewish. My mistake.
I guess I can't tell one Semite from another...

Comparing this cartoon to NAZI anti-Jewish is an insult. Jews did not commit , neither conspired to commit, any terrorist against Germany. Islamists/Muslims commit 9/11 and other atrocities against US and against US non-Muslim citizens on the US soil, eg Fort Hood shooting, and abroad in Africa, Asia and in Europe. Too many to list them here.

So, if members of a race commit crimes, we are given free license to use hate mongering propaganda against said race? Sounds like a beautiful country to live in.

Ooooh, not hate minded propaganda. Why, why, that may OFEND someone. Oh no! Not that! Cant HURT SOMEONES FEELINGS! Someone may lose sleep or not buy the paper anymore. Oh, NO! What does this say about US as a people? Im getting nauseous just thinking about it.

Cartoons are supposed to be funny. It was. Where're CAIR's slams for all those being killed recently over accidentally disposing of their 'holy' book?

"members calling for Americans to stop associating 9/11 with the Muslim religion." Why would Americans take the motivation of the terrorists out of the actions on 9/11? Oh, right, nothing the terrorists did had anything to do with their beliefs about Allah, their holy war or how to be sure they get to heaven.

It's satirical, of course, but an accurate reflection of the types of people who actually carry out acts of terrorism. One could also interpret it as lampooning the stereotypes that, for good or ill, inhabit our minds, which would make the cartoon pro-CAIR. However, since CAIR's mission is to abrogate the civil rights of others, while at the same time enabling the terrorists amongst us and furthering their own stealth jihad, they must lash out blindly and viciously at anyone who even seems a critic. By default, CAIR has issued yet another death fatwa against a cartoonist, but it's not the first time CAIR has instigated violence.

CAIR, this is the U.S. ...we can and do and will make fun and satirize ANYBODY we feel like. It is call "Freedom of Speech"...1st Amendment stuff, you know. It is ONE of those things you are supposed to LEARN if you want to be an American citizen!! We are not "The EU" nor do you intimidate us here.

Except that if it were Jews represented in that cartoon, heads would roll...wouldn't they?
      • No2Extremism 2 mths ago
@Condor,.... Yeah,... RIGHT,.... PURE BULL----,.... and I NEVER had a Jew try to impose his belief system upon me, and/or discriminate against me, and/or express the slightest desire to do me any harm whatsoever, unlike a number of muslims that I have worked with... You are comparing apples and oranges, and it does not pass muster..... Better luck next time.....

As with most bullies, CAIR is over-reacting to an imaginary insult, probably because it hits too close to the truth
    • UBoatCaptain  •  2 mths ago
"...and members calling for Americans to stop associating 9/11 with the Muslim religion. " You're right, CAIR. That's an unfair comparison. I know, by all the thousands of protests by Muslims worldwide against violence towards Westerners......in your dreams.

      That's right, Arabs are Semites.

ABSOLUTELY NO muzzling of public speakers, cartoonists, or ANYONE who wishes to express their opinions,........ ESPECIALLY if it "offends" somebody elses' cherished beliefs.... If we, as a nation, do not resolutely/steadfastly support this MOST IMPORTANT of American tenets, then we are as doomed as the "Ayatollah types' keep sneeringly insisting that we are......

if there were no jews and no muslims the world would be a better place

Come spy, and make surveillance, all you wish. True believers have nothing to hide, and fear only God Himself. The rest, propaganda to keep the general public at ease and convinced that their taxes are being well spent by their elected officials. But politicians today are all but liars and thieves who work for self interest, and make inroads to monitor and control society. They are all against freedom of thought. America is in a graver situation than corporate owned media would lead you to believe. Beware!

I'm sure theres a Jew somewhere that enjoys putting on feathers and warpaint to invoke "kill the Indians-Braves-Redskins" etc., but then remember, 6 million Jews goes into 50 million Native Americans several times! As long as Native Americans are fair game, I don't see an end to racism anytime soon?

Not to associate Muslim religion with 9/11 ? It's like me asking not to be associated with the Russian Communist Party. For the majority of Americans the difference is way too subtle to be appreciated or truly understood. Sorry, I'm afraid my beloved religion is gonna be associated with 9/11 forever. But then again, Sufis never killed anybody. We've way too busy trying to communicate with God.

isreal did 9/11 to make us defeat their enemies (iraq, iran, afghanistan) and we took their bait and now we hate their enemies and spill our blood to defend them. We are good slaves
