    California Stem Cell Leaders Keirstead and Airriess Panelists at Advocacy and Thought Leader Conferences

    California Stem Cell, Inc. (CSC)’s Hans S. Keirstead, Ph.D. and Chris N. Airriess, Ph.D. are speaking at two significant advocacy and academic conferences: The Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (FSMA) Conference, June 23 - 26, 2011 at the Walt Disney World Swan Resort, Orlando, Florida, and the upcoming Aspen Ideas Festival, June 27- July 3, 2011, Aspen Colorado.

    California Stem Cell, Inc. (CSC)’s Hans S. Keirstead, Ph.D. and Chris N. Airriess, Ph.D. are speaking at two significant advocacy and academic conferences: The Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (FSMA) Conference, June 23 - 26, 2011 at the Walt Disney World Swan Resort, Orlando, Florida, and the upcoming Aspen Ideas Festival, June 27- July 3, 2011, Aspen Colorado.

    The FSMA Conference was a great opportunity to learn and interact with the world’s leading SMA experts and researchers. Dr. Keirstead presented at the scientific session on Saturday, June 25 and Dr. Airriess participated in the Scientific Panel Discussion, Therapeutic Approaches Targeted at Protection or SMN Replacement, on Sunday, June 26.

    “It is both humbling and inspiring to meet the families of FSMA. It is for them that we dedicate our talents, experience and passionate focus on the promise of stem cell therapies to find treatments for motor neuron diseases. All of us at CSC are tremendously grateful for the support of FSMA in the development of our programs to date and we will not stop until we reach our goal," said Dr. Airriess.

    The vision of the Aspen Ideas Festival is to create stimulating and invigorating programs and discussions designed to create a vibrant intellectual exchange among some of the most remarkable minds around the world today.

    Later this week, Dr. Keirstead will be speaking on two panels. In his first plenary session, Game Changers: New Technologies to Cure Disease and Treat Injury on Friday, July 1, Dr. Keirstead will discuss the groundbreaking stem cell based treatments that his team has developed, and present his views of the future of this field.

    On Saturday, July 2, Dr. Keirstead will discuss the ethics of stem cell use on the Frontiers of Medicine panel with Ezekiel Emmanuel, MD.,Ph.D., Head of the Department of Bioethics at The Clinical Center of the US National Institutes of Health.

    “The Aspen Ideas Festival is a significant opportunity to discuss the state of stem cell research and therapeutic development with many of the world’s thought leaders," said Keirstead. I am hoping not only to communicate our progress to others outside the field, but also to learn from and be inspired by world class minds and scholars who are as passionate about their work as I am about ours.”
