For Porsche fans it could be the ultimate car.

And if you have £2.5 million to spare the 911 could be yours.

The car, built in 1997 and which has raced at Le Mans, is being sold at auction by Sotheby’s in Monaco in May.

The 911 ‘Evolution’ model, was built by Porsche to challenge the mighty McLaren F1 in endurance races.

It ended up winning 13 of its 31 races.

What makes the car really different though is that after its racing career it was unusually converted for road use.

It has a 3.2-litre engine and more than 600bhp - a huge figure for a car which weighs just over one-ton.

It means it can do 0-60mph in around three seconds and comfortably hit speeds in excess of 200mph.

It is based in the UK and was restored last year by Lanzante Motorsports at a cost of more than £300,000.

The Porsche has been used just twice since the overhaul, with one of these outings taking place at the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Sotheby’s say the car is "a vehicle that will wow crowds wherever it goes", has given it a guide price of around £2.5 million.
