Capture Ghosts at Foursquare Spots With 'Ghostbusters' iOS Game

Something strange in your neighborhood? Instead of picking up your iPhone to call the Ghostbusters, bust those ghosts yourself in the new Ghostbusters: Paranormal Blast game.

Ghostbusters: Paranormal Blast [iTunes link] uses alternate reality to allow you to chase down and capture ghosts near you. It's a novel game allowing players to strap on their own Proton Packs and get after ghosts around them.

When you load the app, you'll see Foursquare locations around you that have been "haunted" by ghosts. Click on one, and a ghost will appear in front of you on your phone's display. They don't just sit idly by; these ghosts are feisty, and will attack you while you zap them with your Proton Pack. You'll have to move your phone or iPad to keep the ghosts on the screen -- which makes you look a bit silly in the process -- as they track to different parts of your camera to avoid capture. Once the ghost is weakened, slide your Ghost Trap beneath them to add them to your collection.

Ghosts captured earn you money and achievements, which you can use to unlock new missions and upgrade your gear. The ghosts get tougher as the game progresses, too, and new ones are available as you visit new areas in real life. You'll even run into the Ghostbusters nemesis Slimer in your travels.

Ghostbusters: Paranormal Blast, created by Toronto-based XMG Studios, retails for $1.99 for both iPad (though only models with a camera can play) and iPhone.
