Car catches fire in Horseheads on Saturday evening

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WETM) — A car caught fire on county Route 64 in Horseheads on Saturday evening.

The burning car was parked on the shoulder of the eastbound side of county Route 64 just before where the offramp of Interstate 86’s Exit 52B (Elmira Heights) merges with the roadway. The fire started around 5 p.m. on March 9.

According to the Horseheads Fire Department, Engine Company 1032 put out the fire. An investigation found that the fire was caused by a mechanical failure. The fire department did not report any injuries.

The Horseheads Police Department assisted at the scene.
