    Cardinal apologizes for linking gay parade to KKK

    CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago's Cardinal Francis George is apologizing for remarks comparing an annual gay rights parade to a Ku Klux Klan rally.

    In a Chicago Tribune interview, George said he is "truly sorry for the hurt my remarks have caused."

    George said he has gay and lesbian family members, and his remarks "evidently wounded a good number of people. I am sorry for the hurt."

    The cardinal's initial remarks last month were prompted by plans by gay pride leaders to route a parade at a time that would have interfered with services at a church. He said it resembled anti-Catholic marches once staged by the Klan. The time of the parade was changed.

    Gay rights groups condemned his comments.

    An official of The Civil Rights Agenda, which called for George's resignation because of his remarks, said Friday that he is pleased by the cardinal's apology. Anthony Martinez, executive director for the gay rights group, said George has set a good example of leadership by admitting he was wrong.

        That's one of many consequences. I'm sure you won't go up to a gun yeilding mad man and say, "hey stop that," why? because of the CONSEQUENCES.
        Consequences are why many people choose not to excersize their freedom of speech. If you don't understand that, you never will.

      I'm mixed about this...personally I have a live and let live attitude, but...different opinions exist. Many of those opinions will make many other people angry, or at least irritated. Argument is fine, and even beneficial in the long run, but when an atmosphere exists where you feel you must apologize for an honest opinion, it seems we lose more than we gain.

      I don't endorse this cardinal but how many other people are sick of all the apologies made lately? If you mean it don't apologize. I cannot figure out why even Comedians are apologizing for everything. We may disagree with what is said and state that but do we have to be so PC and force an insincere apology?

      Why apologize.? Why do they always try to draw attention to themselves? Nobody cares what you do in your bedroom, it's when you try to shove your lifestyle down our throats,pardon the pun, that we take offense. I don't french kiss my wife in public so please show us the same courtsey.

      Parades must have permits and a designated route and time, out of consideration for the general public, who do have rights. A gay parade passing a church during services would have been inconsiderate and rude. Alll gays are not cute, cudley T.V. characters. Many get a kick out of being obnoxious and over the top, I can say this because I have witnessed a gay parade.

      I'm neither racist nor gay, so i'm not sure which parade i'd rather watch least, a gay parade, or a KKK parade, but what would be REALLY interesting to see... the two parades scheduled on the same day and end up crashing headfirst into each other.
