Carmen Marc Valvo dives into NY Fashion Week

NEW YORK (AP) — Carmen Marc Valvo dove into New York Fashion Week on Friday with a spring collection tinged with sequins and scuba — yes, scuba — influences.

"Transparency continues in a sporty vein; scuba stripes are used to infuse more than just a glimpse of skin baring backs and legs," explained Valvo in his notes. "Athletic mesh and black leather are used in conjunction with elaborate embroideries to create a more hard-edged sophistication."

The opening look was a bright pink scuba stripe and leather cocktail dress with a black hemline. He then moved into beaded illusion dresses that offered the look of strapless necklines with wearability, thanks to some sheer fabric on the shoulders and on the bustline.

His bathing suits were an extension of the party looks — maybe it would be better to call it loungewear rather than swimwear in this case.

Whatever you want to call it, sign up Vanessa Williams, who was picking outfits from the front row. She said she and Valvo have been friends for almost 30 years.

"I love wearing his clothes," she said. "Obviously his fit model is the same size as me, because I can wear the sample and I don't have to squeeze into it. That's always good."
